Arnie Phillips on coping with lockdown in the fight against coronavirus

COPING WITH LOCKDOWN

Arnie Phillips is a Clinical Psychology Registrar (at Think Psychology in Geelong) who specialises in treating children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

He's better known as the 'child whisperer' by one of my friends who's son is treated by Arnie.

Over the coming weeks Arnie and I will be running coronavirus special episodes to try to help families cope with lockdown.

In this episode we discuss trying to be more flexible and also not being afraid to be honest with your family members in order to help reduce tension.

Flexible routines

  • Setting some structure and variation in your day

  • Strategy: Activity categories (brain, body, imagination, social, alone, helpful), and one activity from each category each day

It's not me, it's you

  • Letting people know what they're doing - or not doing - that annoys you

  • Strategy: Stop-Start-Keep

We are also starting a daily sketch practice under the hashtag #pendemic2020 on Instagram which you are more than welcome to join. You can find Arnie's drawings at: _arn_dogg_
